DEDICATION CEREMONIES

MELBOURNE, October 29,

The largest and most representative gathering of the Catholic hierarchy and priesthood for many years attended the ceremonies today for blessing the recently-completed three spires of the St. Patrick's Cathedral. The ceremonies, which will continue for a week, also mark the centenary of Catholicism in Victoria. '

The New Zealand representatives present included Archbishop O'Shea, Monsignor.. Holbrook, and Father L. Buxton.

In brilliant sunshine a huge crowd witnessed the colourful proceedings on, the lawns outside the cathedral, where Archbishop Mannix blessed a memorial stone sent by Cardinal Macrory from St. Patrick's Cathedral, Armagh, Ireland. The blessing of the spires followed. Inside the cathedral Pontifical High Mass was celebrated by the Papal Legate, Archbishop Panico. Three choirs of 340 voices, including the Vienna Mozart Boys' Choir, sang Palestrina's impressive Mass "Missa Astumpta Est Maria."
