DANCE RECITAL

"THE CENTENNIAL FOLLIES"

Again this year a capacity house greeted the performance presented by the pupils of the Margaret Oates School of Dancing, which* was held in the Concert Chamber on Saturday evening.

An interesting and varied programme was presented, including outstanding numbers by the junior and senior classes. The final item, "It's the Centenary," was novel and original, the performers singing with gusto and'giving a display of tapdancing. Mr. Henare Tahiwi sang the Maori war song "Ka Mate" as an opening for the "Centenary."

Solos and duos were given by Edna Magee, Maureen McM&hon, Margaret Scott, Daphne Rounthwaite, Terese Dunne, Lynette Wilkin, Margaret McDonald, Dale and Audrey Flitcroft, Mere Taylor, Valeric Wilkin, Shirley Richardson, Dawn Sargent, Laurel McNeely, Doreen Tempest, Kathleen Shiel, Joyce and Joan Leek, Joyce Moody, Colleen Edmonds, Madeleine Gough, Olive Jones, Joyce Munn, Shirley Patton, Doreen McGinnity, Elaine and Noeline Goodman, Violet Jones, Joan Sargent, Itka and Basia Goodman, Masters Barry Jackson, Bobbie Parker, Raymond Clifford, Benny Hutchinson, Billy Goodfellow, and Ralph Wilkin. Others taking part were Lilian Rounthwaite, Barbara Adams, Pamela Dallas, Jean Cherry, Pixie Fletcher, Nola Johanseh, and Masters Ivan Johansen, Ron O'Grady, and Ron Moody.

At the conclusion of the programme the performers received gifts and bouquets from their parents and friends. Mrs. P. Fraser presented Miss Oates with a china teaset from the pupils and parents and a handbag to Mrs. Oates, who had assisted.

Miss Oates thanked all who had helped to make the evening a success, especially Misses Shirley Wilson and Valda Crawford and Master Jeff Stewart, the vocal pupils of Mrs. E. Crawford.
