PAN-PACIFIC LECTURE

After - many postponements, Sir Apirana Ngata gave a most interesting lecture in. Nelson recently on behalf of the Pan-Pacific Women's Association. His subject was "Maori Culture," and it is seldom that Nelson audiences have the opportunity of listening to such an instructive lecture delivered by so delightful a speaker. The Mayor, Mr. G.L. Page, and Mrs. H. Atmore also, spoke. .%. Wedding, of Interest. \On Saturday, at the Cathedral, - the marriage of Miss Kitty Johnston, eldest daughter of Dr. and Mrs. W. Dl S. Johnston, and Mr. Peter Cachmaille,, Wellington, took place. Miss Marigold and Miss Aileen Johnston attended the bride and Messrs. Coleridge and R. Henderson were the groomsmen. At the reception afterwards, among the guests were Dr. and Mrs. F.-.A. Bett, and Miss L Andrew, Dr. and Mrs./R. A. Lucas, Mr. and Mrs. G. Samuel, Mr. and Mrs: H. C. Cock, Mr.-and Mrs. C. H. Broad, Mr. and Mrs. Maunsell, Dr. and Mrs. H. E. A. Washbourn and Miss Washbourn, Mr. and Mrs. R. Duncan, Mr. and Mrs. H. Leggatt, .Dr. and Mrs. Jamieson, Mr. and Mrs. Little, Sir Thomas and Lady' Easterfield and Easterfield. ■ Final Evenings All circles of the Women's Club are v now holding their final open evenings, and next week the play-reading group is giving Noel Coward's "Private Lives." Last week the bridge circle held an opening evening, some of those playing ~ being Mesdames Jennings, Stedman, Campbell, Rout, Jones, Moynihan, and Parker. * "Five O'clock" Party. Major and Mrs. J. M. Lorimer were hosts at their home, The Hayes, Stoke, one evening last week. Among the guests were Colonel and Mrs. E. Lorimer, Captain .and Mrs. A. Campbell, Major and Mrs. E. Johnston, Mr. and Mrs. Marsh and Miss Marsh, Mr. and Mrs. Greer, Mrs. R. H. Davies, Dr. and Mrs. J. Williams, and Mrs.\ G. Samuel. - The Special Force. The recently-formed Soldiers' Club, run by the members of the Territorial Association, is proving a great boon to the men who come up for their medical examination, and is always open when the necessity arises. Personals. Recent hosts have been Mrs. S, A; Gibbs, Dr. and Mrs. Frank Hudson, and Dr. and Mrs.D. C. Low. Sir Walter and Lady Scott have returned to Nelson, and have taken the late Mrs. A. J. Glasgow's home in Bronte Street.;
