SOLDIER IN TROUBLE
A soldier who apparently overstayed his leave made his appearance before Mr. J. H. Luxford, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court" today and admitted the attempted conversion of a motorcar. It was stated by the'police that the accuse! had leave of absence from Trentham Camp on Saturday night, and he and his companion had probably had a little too much liquor. At 3.30 a.m. on Sunday a milkman saw them trying the doors of motor-cars, and later, in Vivian Street, he saw them seated in a car. When a constable arrived the men ran away, but the accused was caught. After hearing submissions by counsel, the Magistrate discharged the accused under the Offenders' Probation Act, remarking, however, that breaches of the civil law by the military could not be regarded lightly.
