A CHARGE DISMISSED

CHRISTCHURCH, October 27.
"I wish to make the strongest protest that this charge should be brought at all. It is a scandalous instance of prosecution developing into persecution," declared counsel iri the Magistrate's Court today, when William Connor was charged with supplying false information.
After hearing the evidence the Magistrate, Mr. E. C, Levvey, dismissed the charge, saying that it re* vealed a very grave omission in tht regulations. Sub-Inspector Packer said that Con* nor was involved in an accident on April .26 and. on July 11 was convicted on a charge of failing t6 give way. ; Later he was involved in an accident in which a man was killed and he made a voluntary statement to the police. In this he said that, he had been driving for four years and never, had an accident.
Counsel said that Connor was under no obligation to give information and could <3nly answer questions to tha best of his ability. He submitted that there-was no case to answer. .
