INTER-COLLEGE DEBATE
The annual debate between Rongotai College and the Hutt Valley High School took place on Thursday,- being the eighth occasion on Avhich this contest for the Gow Scroll has been held. The subject was: "That the NeAv Zealand Government should establish a complete free State Medical Service." The affirmative was taken by the Hutt Valley High School, and the negative by Rongotai College. The speakers were:—Hutt, C. Wong, R. Gray, and G. I. Cooper; Rongotai College, R. Allender, W. Simms, and L. D. Constable. The judge, Mr. A. E. Campbell, Director of the Council of Educational Research, awarded the debate to Rongotai. and placed R. Allender first, L. Constable second, and R. Gray third. Mr. Campbell said that the standard of debating was high for secondary schools, and complimented the speakers on their fluency. "Rongotai," he said, "won the; verdict for better team work, marshalling of arguments, and division of the subject, but the difference between the teams was not great."
