BUS AND FERRY TRAFFIC \ The Town Clerk and riianager bf !th* Eastbourne Borough (Mr. C. L. Bishop) reported to his council last evening that full arrangements had now been completed for coping with the ferry and bus traffic during the Exhibition. The Mayor (Mr! E. W. Wise) said he, had been surprised to -find ' how thoroughly the details of the scheme had been arranged. Councillor M. Magill said Mr. Bishop deserved the cordial thanks" of the council for his work, and other councillors commented on the efficiency displayed. In regard to the ordinary, routine work of the borough, Mr. Bishop,reported that the rates had come.- in- exceedingly well, and that to the-end of Septeiriber £9265 had been received as against £8316 for the corresponding period last year. Receipts from other sources.., were up tb the estimates and slightly., in excess of last year; while expenditure was, on the "whole, normal. For the month " of September the ferry -traffic receipts were approximately i,£.140 higher than . 7 those, : fpridthe corresponding month of-last year, -^he total for the six- months was approximately £400 higher. ■ The expenditure had been normal and the result' of trading somewhat better. For the month .of September, there had been a fairly substantial Increase in bus traffic receipts, and so far the increased receipts had oeen sufficient to cover the increased costs. With-'the restrictions on the use of petrol for private purposes there had been, ; mbre traffic on the .buses and ferries/ The council decided that in- addition to keeping open the positions of1 those of its employees who enlist with the military forces, it would maintain their superannuation payments and allow their annual leave to .accumulate till they returned. ■ - The Hutt Valley Electric Power Board asked for permission to erect a sub-station near Windy Point, at the entrance lo the borough, on council property, on the seaward side of the road. It* was decided to leave the-matter in the hands of the Mayor, Councillor Shearer, and the Town Clerk.
