CONFERENCE OVER
EUROPE AWAITS THE OUTCOME
STALIN'S ATTITUDE
(Daventry Broadcast.) LONDON, Monday Night. The Nazi Party district leader* have now dispersed after the conference with Herr Hitler. No indication is given in Berlin as to the outcome of the conference, but it is believed in Paris that Herr yon Ribbentrop's speech in Danzig tomorrow evening may provide a clue. Herr Hitler is reported to have seen Herr yon Ribbentrop this morning. (By Telegraph—Press Association—-Copyright.}, LONDON, October 23. Europe awaits with extreme interest the outcome of Herr Hitler's conference with State Governors and district leaders, as it is realised that on it the future course of the war will probably depend. Not the slightest hint has emerged from Berlin as to the nature of the talks, which are keeping the Wilhelmstrasse. extremely active. Several Paris newspapers declare that.a refusal by M. Stalin of military aid and also a refusal of a German request fon a fleet of 2000 warplanes has bitterly disappointed Herr Hitler. It is, said that M. Stalin wrote to Herr. Hitler on Saturday finally dashing his hopes df Russian intervention in the west. Neutral chancelleries in Berlin declare that M. Stalin has reserved the right to trade, with Britain and the United States, to which he is delivering manganese, which Germany wants. The French Press. has launched a counter-offensive in order to offset what is Ascribed as a Russo-German attempt to destroy France's unity and. induce a separate peace. -It declares that a German effort to terrorise England by means of repeated air raids* so indirectly destroying the French morale, is doomed to failure. Amsterdam newspapers report that' Herr Hitler has demanded blind confidence in himself-and Providence from" the Nazi leaders. It is reported that. in consultations with military leaders' he assured his hearers that the com-, ing week will be decisive. He is reported to have promised, in recalling the quick suppression of Poland, that England will be brought td her knees very soon as a result "of intensification, of the sea and air campaigns. His district leaders, however; mentioned uneasiness as* a result of the evacuation of towns on the Western Front and also resentment in Bavaria and Austria over "the friendly policy towards the Soviet. Herr Hitler is reported to have given an assurance that he is as strongly anti-Communist as ever, and that the present policy i» temporary, dictated by necessity.
