CROSSING TRAGEDY
PETROL IGNITES AFTER COLLISION
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) j PALMERSTON N., October 23. j A tragedy occurred at the West Street level crossing late this afternoon when the north-bourid Auckland express struck a small car. The driver, I believed to be George Glasgow Jamie-j son, of Hopelands, near Woodville, was' pinned by the feet and was uncon-J scious. While the work of extricating him was going on, benzine, pouring from the tank, ignited and the rescuers were forced to leave the victim, whose J clothes were practically burnt off before the fire brigade quelled the out-| ibreak. He died on the way to hospital. |
