WELSH SOCIETY
Patriotic feeling ran very high at the Green Clubrooms on Saturday night, when the Welsh Society held an "Empire" evening. In a room draped with Welsh flags the president, Mr. John Tucker, welcomed representatives of all Empire countries and France. Wales was represented on the programme by the ladies' choir, which sang two songs in costume with Mrs. Bacon as soloist. For Scotland, Mrs. Mclntyre gave a recitation, and Mr. Lan MacKay a short talk. The Rev. Costain sang two Manx folk songs, Mrs. G. R. Thomas two Irish songs, Mrs. D. Roberts, an Australian, gave a short talk, Mrs. McLeod sang the Canadian national anthem, and Mr. Phipps sang two appropriate English songs. Misses Smythson and Mead gave a short greeting in French from the French Club. To conclude the programme all present joined in the singing of national, songs. Miss Hardie. of Lower Hitt, played all the accompaniments, and Mrs. Jesson acted as hostess. Supper was served by Mrs. Morrisby and other members of the committee.
