MANY PRE-WEDDING PARTIES

(From ''The Posts Representative.) There were a large number of weddings in Wanganui at the weekend,; and all the week before a number of parties were given for different brides. Mass Hazel Dustin was entertained by Mrs. W. Wyber, who gave a gift party, and by bMisses B. and C. Bailey, who held a "laundry" party. Mrs. John Gray was hostess for Miss • Una Gray at a "bathroom" evening. '■ Mrs. O. Allen entertained for Miss ! Ella Bauld at a gift afternoon, and Mrs. ■ J. Connor and Miss E. Mather arranged 1 a "kitchen" afternoon for her. Mrs. N. G. Parsonson was hostess at ■ a gift afternoon for Miss Moira Walpole, and Mrs. H. Bellringer entertained at a "bathroom" evening for ■ her. 1 Misses C. and M. Hine were hostesses at a "kitchen" party in honour of Miss Jean Kellick. Heywood—-Falcon er. St. Peter's Anglican Church was adorned with lilac and lilies for the wedding recently of Jessie, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Falconer, and John, only son of Mrs. E. Heywood, of Christchurch. The bride, escorted by her father, wore ivory silk velvet, with long oval train, and Brussels lace veil. Her bouquet was composed of rosebuds and lily of the valley. Misses M. McBreaty and Jean Scott were bridesmaids, wearing blue chiffon over taffeta with shirred bodices and boleros. Cyclamen ostrich plumes were worn in their hair, and they carried cyclamen and double petunias. The Rev. V. C. Vennimore performed the ceremony, and Messrs. G. Thomas (Feilding) and R. Falconer were groomsmen. After the ceremony many guests were entertained at the Savage Club Hall. Mr. and Mrs. John Heywood will make Seventy-eighth Birthday. Mrs. A. Sinclair, a daughter of an old pioneering family, the Strachans, received a surprise-visit on .the afternoon of her seventy-eighth birthday, and was presented with a gift and a posy by her friends. A beautiful cake was the gift of her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Ray Sinclair. Those present were Mesdames Welch, J. Martin, S. Dixon, R. Bond, J. Hogg, W. McGorrorie, J. Heatley, and Miss Bridge. Bruce —Dustin. Cherry blossom was used for decorations at St. Paul's Presbyterian Church for the wedding of Hazel, only daughter, of Mrs. and the late Mr. .W. S. Dustin, and Mr. S. W. Bruce, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. S. Bruce, of Gisborne. The bride, who was escorted by her mother, wore white crepe with train and long sleeves, and tulle veil caught with a halo. Her cousin, Miss Alwyn Jones, of Christchurch, and her niece, Helen Trail, of Palmerston North, attended her. Both wore ribbon-striped marquisette sheer finished with velvet sashes. Mr. J. Smillie, of Gisborne, was best man, and Rev. A. C. McLean officiated. After the ceremony, a reception was held at the Victoria Hall. Personal. Mr. and Mrs. C. Higgs are Wellington visitors to Wanganui. Mrs. E. Kendrick is visiting Napier and Wairoa. Miss E. Clements, Wellington, was Miss D. Gurr's guest for the holiday . weekend. •

Misses V. and J. Winstone, who have been visiting the South Island, have returned to Wanganui. Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Brown, Hutt, were visitors for Labour weekend. Miss C. Dustin, Petone, visited Wanganui for Miss H. Dustin's wedding. Mr. and Mrs. Trevor Wickham, Wellington, spent the holiday weekend with Mrs. J. C. Wickham. , Mr. and Mrs. G. Nichol, of Invercargill, are the guests of the Rev. and Mrs. Chambers. Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Todd, Makirikiri, were in WelUngton for the holiday weekend.
