Warm ;and touching tributes to Arch^ bishop' Averill were paid when^'the1 Auckland Anglican Synod took leave of him. The Archbishop will retire as Bishop of Auckland on March 31. Deep regret was expressed that the present official bond between the bishop and the people was soon to be broken. Stressing that he did not want a formal farewell, the Archbishop said .that when one had spent the better part of a lifetime in a position. the best thing was to get away quietly.
