RECORD OF MATCHES

After threatening weather yesterday, today was beautifully firie in Wellington for the main Rugby match of the New Zealand season —the inter-island fixture.V: interest in this game is. always, keen, and invariably it attracts Rugby enthusiasts from long distances. Today there was an added attraction, the first of the New Zealand trial matches^ -which was^the early game. Although' at present it appears extremely doubtful whether a New Zealand team will be sent to South Africa because of international events, the New Zealand Rugby Union has decided to carry on in the meantime, and yesterday, after consulting players who had been brought to Wellington, it was decided to adhere to the original programme of trial matches. This means that there will be further trials on Wednesday and Saturday next. Today's match was the thirty-fourth to be played between teams representing the North and South Islands. The previous matches have resulted as follows:—-
