TRAMP TO THE REAR

LINES OF REFUGEES

AIX-LA-CHAPELLE EXODUS

GERMANS BILLETED

(Daventry Broadcast.) LONDON, Friday Night. In spite of Dr. Goebbels's denial that Aix-la-Chapelle is being evacuated, French and Belgian newspapers report that long lines of refugees are leaving the district. Numerous neutrals and trustworthy Germans arriving from the district speak of refugees going to the rear of the German lines on foot. Those leaving the district say that they have been ordered to leave the keys of their homes with the police. Although other centres have not received orders to evacuate, the population is said to be ready to leave. It is reported that the Germans are evacuating the territory between the right bank of the Rhine and the Siegfried Line. Large numbers' of troops are said to be billeted at Aix-la-Chapelle waiting to be sent to the Saar front.
