UNIVERSITY CLUB

At the annual meeting of the Victoria University College Tennis Club, the following were elected officers for the coming season: — Patron, Mr. S. Eichelbaum; president, Mr. E. G. Evans-Scott, A. D. Muuro, G. S. Simpson, F. P. Wilson. R. A. Wright, h. O. Dexborouph. P. B. Cooke, It. .T. Kankervis, and J. li. Mac Duff; chairman, Mr. K. J. McXaught; lion, secretary, Mr. I. D. McAllister ; lion, treasurer, Mr. I. Bowden : committee, Misses Singleton, Pears, M. Edwards, MarLean. Messrs. Pasley, Renouf, Elliot, Baird. The annual report showed last season to have been most successful in both playing and social activities. The Victoria team again won the inter-university tournament, Miss P. E. Mac Lean and Messrs. Morrison and Renouf being awarded New Zealand University Blues.

Sparks from an adjacent chimney caused a fire in a house at 5 Nelson Street 'yesterday. Slight damage was done to the weather-boards, but a brigade from the Central Fire Station had little trouble in suppressing the outbreak. The house is occupied by Mr. R. Thompson.
