N.Z. RUGBY UNION

Neilson (secretary). The New Zealand sole selector, Mr. E. McKenzie, was also present. It was decided as a general policy, in view of the international situation, that no applications for, loans by unions for capital expenditure should be considered during the war periodAfter discussing the question of the number of referees which should be.' submitted by unions for the control of interprovincial and international matches, the council decided to refer the matter to the executive with the recommendation that the number should be limited rather than increased. ■ ■ ,

It was decided to reaffirm the principle of 40-minute spells for inter- ~ provincial matches and to ask for the observance of this by unions. Replying to a question, Mr. Dean said that 40-minute spells would be played in the inter-island matches and also the New Zealand trials.
