UPPER HUTT EMERGENCY COMMITTEE

The following were elected an emergency committee at a largely-attended meeting of citizens of UppeV Hutt held in the R.S.A. Hall this week:—The Mayor. Mr. J. Blewman (chairman), Dr. F. W. Kemp, the Rev. J. C. McCaw, and Messrs. C. Corder (postmaster), S. F. Carver (R.S.A.), and Councillor J. Purvis. Representatives from the west ward will be elected later. Mr. J. Blewman said the object of the meeting was to comply with the request of the Government. The purpose of the committee was to prepare for any emergency which might arise. At the present time it was not the wish of the Government that patriotic funds should be collected, and, apart from helping local men who might be enlisting, the sole purpose of the meeting was to discuss the best means of dealing with any sudden emergency.
