AUCKLAND PILOT

(Special to the 'Evening Post.'M AUCKLAND, This Day. Advice was received yesterday from the Air • Ministry that Pilot Officer I Gordon William Sutton, aged 26, son of Mr. D. W. Sutton, of Ararimu,, serving in the Royal Air Force in a flying-boat squadron stationed at Pembroke, England, is missing. It was believed he had lost his life in an accident. No details are available, but it is believed the accident occurred at the beginning of the week.. Before leaving for England nearly two years ago, Pilot Officer Sutton was an aircraftman at the Hobsonville Air Base. Just-.before the war he flew to Malta and Egypt with a member of the Air Ministry. He had recently been promoted to day captain of a large four-engined flying-boat. When war broke out he was given reconnaissance duties in the anti-submarine convoy system. Pilot Officer Sutton matriculated at the Mount Albert Grammar School and represented the school in the i Rugby team as full-back in 1931-32. He was also captain of the Calshot Air Force Rugby team at. Southampton.
