SUPPLY OF OIL

GERMAN SOURCES

INADEQUATE FOR LONG WAR

NEW YORK, September 21. Statistics showing that the entire crude oil production of the countries able to supply Germany would be inadequate for the Nazi mechanised army and air force for a long war were presented at a gathering of scientists to celebrate the eightieth anniversary of the drilling of the first American well. Dr. Gustav Egloff, petroleum research specialist, said that Russia, \ Poland, Germany, and Rumania to- j gether produced only 260,000,000 barrels annually, about a quarter of the United States production. This was bound to nullify the Nazi air superiority. He added that the Unites States alone was able to produce high octane petrol for all the world's high-speed planes. In addition, England and France could draw from South America, Persia, and Irak.
