OFFENSIVE INDICATED

EAST OF SAARBRUCKEN

FRENCH MORALE EXCEEDINGLY HIGK

(By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright.! (Received September 21,1.45 p.m.)

PARIS, September 20

Although the West Front was all quiet for the greater part of the day, heavy artillery opened up at various points, particularly in the Saarbrucken sector, and there is every indication that the Germans are preparing to take the offensive, as they are probing the French strength along a front of 25 miles east of Saarbrucken.

German troops are still moving to the west from Poland. French troops who have been released from the Italian frontier have also moved up to the "Western Front. The morale of the French troops is exceedingly high. Their losses have been light. The efficiency of their tanks and other mechanised equipment has proved to be excellent.

Brussels reports that another violent explosion occurred opposite the village of Schengen, in Luxembourg, after which an intense artillery bombardment started.

(Daventry Broadcast.)

The French Press reports a German concentration of troops and aircraft around Aix-la-Chapelle. A Paris military correspondent states that the French General Staff is keeping a close watch, and is not likely to be taken by surprise by an attack. A Berlin communique denies that there is any intention of attacking there.
