GIRL GETS ROLE.
A few weeks ago in the finals of the "Gateway to Hollywood" ' radio* taleni search,' Lee Tracy acted as a judge and voted for a brown-haired, blue-eyed beauty who had been awarded firsi place in the San Francisco auditions, The girl was Linda Hayes, who had been working in a night club as a cigarette girl to earn money to continue her dramatic, studies. She .also had worked in' several stock companies and had been determined on a screen career since-early girlhood; Today Miss Hayes is playing the second feminine lead opposite Tracy \n RKORadio's "The Spellbinder," despite the fact that ■ she was not selected in the final auditions. Although the judges failed- to award first place to Miss Hayes, her work was considered pi such high calibre that she was signed to a term contract by RKb and made her debut in "The Girl From' Mexico" with Lupe Velez. "The Spellbinder'1 is Miss Hayes's second picture.,
