FINE AND MILD

Special forecast for Wellington:—
North-westerly winds, freshening tomorrow. ;
Weather fine today, but more cloud tomorrow. Mild temperatures.
The general forecast ( for the Dominion as a whole, issued at noon today for the ensuing twenty-four hours, is for light and variable winds over the northern half of the North Island. Northerlies to westerlies will prevail elsewhere, and will later become strong at times in exposed positions about and south of Cook Strait. The weather will be fair at first almost generally, but it will soon become unsettled in the extreme south-west, and scattered rain will' later extend to western districts of the South Island and to Southland and southern Otago. Temperatures .will be mild.
The anticyclone to the north of the Dominion has been moving slowlyeastwards, while weak depressions have continued to pass along its southern boundary. ■ Yesterday a rather more extensive one crossed the South Island and the southern portion of the North Island. This caused some light rain, but the weather otherwise was generally fair to cloudy, the rain being confined chiefly to Westland and the Alps. Arthur's Pass had 25 points, Greymouth 13, and Westport 6, these being the only falls ,bf any consequence. Strong north-westerlies prevailed about Cook Strait, but elsewhere winds were mainly moderate in force and from some westerly quarter. Temperatures were milder, although there were some light frosts last night in the south. Light to moderate and rather variable winds were prevailing this morning, with northwesterlies predominating. One or two showers were falling in the New Ply- i mouth and Wanganui area, but else-i where the weather was fair to fine. I
Auckland's weather yesterday was cloudy to overcast, with a light to moderate wind between west and south-west. Temperatures were moderate, 57.4 degrees being the maximum and 50.6 degrees the minimum- The weather this morning was still cloudy with a very light north-westerly breeze.
In Wellington it was mainly overcast, the only sunshine being 1.7 hours in the morning. A strong north-west-erly wind prevailed, but the only rain was a trace of a light drizzle in the evening. Temperatures were rather mild, ranging between 57.3 and 49.2 degrees. The wind by this morning had decreased and the weather was sunny.
Christchurch also had overcast weather, a strong north-westerly wind changing during the morning to a light southerly. There were a few light showers in the evening. Temperatures during the day were mild, 64.7 degrees being the maximum, but the minimum last night fell to 38.9 degrees and a frost of five degrees was recorded. The weather this morning was fine with a light north-easterly breeze.
Dunedin had a fine day with passing cloud. Winds were rather variable in direction, with a gentle northerly breeze setting in during the afternoon. Weather and wind remained unchanged today. , *
