OVERDUE SUCCESS

MOUNTAIN FLIGHT'S RE€OR*

Mountain Flight, who was purchased - for Australia some twelve months agoy : scored a long-overdue win when sfi« ■■;.'■ was successful in the Fremantle Han- - dicap, the chief event at the Fre- '■ mantle Trotting Club's" Meeting on * August 28. She started at a remunersK • tive quote, and her connections pat*,-, ticipated in the dividend.

Mountain Flight did her early rao ing in Australia in the colours of Mr. J. P. Stratton, president of the Western Australian Trotting Association, but after a few-failures she was leased to H. H. Richter. She had 24 consecutive unplaced performances against her before she finally got on the winning list. Her owner-trainer could not under* stand her apparent loss of form, and it was decided to pursue, unorthodox methods in her training. When in . New Zealand she had run her best races when raced big in. condition, and. it was decided to turn her out for a . good spell. Most of her training was confined to galloping after the cattta' and sheep on her owner's farm, and accordingly she built up splendidly - and thrived on the preparation. She was not taken to the course until a day before the race, and was not asked to do any training with the hopple* on. '■■.'■■■

While enjoying her spell Mountain Flight was mated with Kolect, winner of a Western Australian Trotting Cup, : and one of the best pacers of recent ~ years in Australia. The result of the mating is sure to create a good deal * of interest, for the New Zealand-bred - mare is "the only daughter of Blu* Mountain King in Australia.
