a.—Market price includes accrued interest but not brokerage. STEDMAN HENDERSON SWEETS. A recovery in net profit is shown by James St dman Henderson's Sweets, Ltd., Sydney, for the year ended June 30. Some of the shares are held in New Zealand. The profit of £34,423 is an increase of £9819, compared with the previous year, for which the profit had fallen heavily. Ordinary dividend, increased from 4 per cent, to 4-J per cent., requires £23,881. It is proposed to pay 3£ per cent, of the dividend out of Australian profits, and 1 per cent, out of New Zealand profits. Preference dividend of 10 per cent., less statutory deduction, amounts to £7750, leaving £8495 to be carried forward, against £5703 brought forward. Though the company's trade expanded slightly, the directors state, the effect was largely offset by increased costs, which, owing to keen competition, it was impossible to pass on.
