JOBS KEPT OPEN

GRATITUDE TO VOLUNTEERS

A motion that members of the staff of the Petone and Lower Hutt Gas Lighting Board volunteering for war service overseas would be assured of their positions if they returned in a fit condition was passed unanimously at a meeting of the board last night.

Mr. J. Cumming, who presided, said that it was the least the board could do to compensate the men for their action in enlisting. Any appointments made subsequent to their joining up would be regarded as temporary.

The motion was proposed by Mr. W. H. Edwards and was carried with a minimum of discussion.
