HIRE PURCHASE
AMENDMENTS TO BILL
Particulars of two amendments which the Statutes Revision Committee has made to the Hire Purchase Agreements Bill were outlined on behalf of.the Committee by Mr. F. W Schrai™ CGovernment, Auckland East) in the House of Representatives yesterday afternoon. Mr. Schramm said that in clause 2 the definition of the word "guarantor" was amended by the addition of the words "but does not include any person engaged, at the time of giving the guarantee, in the rade m lusinlss of selling goods of the same nature or description as the goods lefecred to in the hire-purchase agreement" The reason for this, said Mr. Schramm, was that in many cases, such Is in the sale of motor-cars arrangements were entered into between th, buyer and a finance company "was the opinion of the Committee that there should be no interference with the rights and obligations that would oe arranged between the importers, buyers and finance companies. . - A clause has been added imposing a penalty on anyone who defrauds or Jttempte to ■ defraud the vendor of gooS comprised in a hire-purchase | agreement. .
