WANGANUI NOTES
SCHOOL HOLIDAYS
(From "The Post's" Representative.)
Wanganui seems to have almost more than its share of visitors these school holidays, what with hockey and football tournaments and country school children down in the city for a change. There are many attractions, especially for the country children —the trams, the big river with its boats, the sea, only a few miles away, and to add to the interest at the beach a big stranded Home boat, which men are working day and night to unload in an effort to float off. There have been two interesting collections at the Art Gallery and a museum is always of interest. Many' children are paying their first visit to a museum these holidays, and exclaim with pleasure when they see objects they had only read about. In spite of the weather, thj school holidays are passing happily for the children in Wanganui. Kitchen Tea. Many guests were present at "Awatea" last Friday , when Miss Amy Graham entertained in honour of Miss J. Alexander, whose marriage takes place next month. Many varied gifts were brought for her kitchen. Among those present were Mesdames A. J. Alexander, J. Alexander, E. Brewer, H. Roy (Taihape). A. Birch, A. E. Symes. J. Blythe (Hawera). I. Billinghurst, K. Gibbons, M. Lance, S. Besley. J. Meddicott, M. Hunter (Hawera), Misses M. Bright (Hawera), S. Lovell, G. and N. Mathieson. Studio Party. There was great excitement last week in the dancing world when the big examination for the year was conducted by an overseas examiner. To celebrate the great success of her pupils, Miss Eva Matthews arranged a big party for the parents and children. Little Shirley Richards, aged eight, who won into the honours class, was crowned "queen," and Lola Bosher and Ngaire Ruscoe, who brought many honours from the Hawera Competitions, were made "princesses" for the afternoon. Games and afternoon tea filled a very jolly time. Wedding. St. Paul's Church was decorated with pink blossoms and pussy willow for the wedding of Elsie, eldest daughter of Mrs. and the late Mr. Percy Bailey, and James, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Gould. The bride, who entered the church with her uncle, Mr. S. Dustin, wore marigold cloque and a tulle veil caught with flowers. Misses Claudia Bailey and Helen Gould were bridesmaids, wearing period frocks of silver lame and cyclamen coatees and muffs. Messrs. R. Coxon and M. Granville attended the bridegroom.
