The annual conference of the North Island Motor Union yesterday elected the following officers:—President. Or. E. E. Porritt (.Wanganui): vice-presi-dents, Messrs. J. .H. Edmundson (Hawke's Bay) and A. Grayson (Auckland); executive, Messrs. F. G. Farrell (Auckland). W. T. Guild . (TaranaKi. J. C. Allen (Sohth Taranaki) A. S Burgess (Wanganui). ,W. H. Brown (Manawatu), R. W. Roydhouse (Wairarapa). E. Palliser (Wellington), and D D. W. Fitzgerald (Hawke's Bay).
A resolution was carried urging ehe Main Highways Board to proceed as rapidly as possible with the 'marking of white lines along the centre of highways
There was considerable discussion on the question of tests for drivers, and it was decided to approach the authorities to have the requirements for licences made more stringent.
A remit urging that when ladders are being conveyed on motor vehicles they should be on. the' left-hand side was lost, when it was pointed out that the position was covered by regulation. ■ . *The adoption of three short blasts of a horn as a signal to another'motorist that something was wrong was approved.
A suggestion that petrol resellers oe requested to display a notice showing the amount of tax paid by a purchaser was not approved.
A remit dealing with roadside hoardings was held over till more information is available. The proposal vias to try and induce members not to patronise goods and services so advertised when the hoardings marred scenic •beauty.
