Mr. Colin Horsley, the young Wanganui pianist who went to London last year for further study, has won the Herbert Sharpe Prize in his grade at the annual examination of the Royal College of Music.
Mr. J. A. C. Allum, president of the Auckland Employers' Association, Mr. A. Ely, president of the Chamber of Commerce, and Mr. W. H. Shove, president of the Manufacturers' Association, arrived today by the Limited express to meet the Acting Prime Minister (the Hon. P.- Fraser) to discuss defence.
Mr. M. J. Moodabe, governing director of Amalgamated Theatres, Ltd., accompanied by Mrs. Moodabe andk family, arrived from Auckland today.
Mr. Angus Mcßean, formerly of Auckland, and npw principal of. tha English section of the Institut auf dem Rosenberg, at Gallen, near Zurich, thalargest college in Switzerland, is ex- Xpected to arrive in New, Zealand shortly on a holiday visit..
Mr. A. B. Casey, stationmaster at Hamilton, has been transferred to* Stratford.
Mr. P. O'Brien, of the staff of the Canterbury Museum, has been granted 12 months' leave from January 1, 1940, to enable him to study modern taxidermy at the Californian Academy of Sciences, San Francisco.
Mr. Thomas Auton, of Christchurch, a member of the council of the Incorporated Institute of Accountants pf New Zealand, is in Wellington to attend the council meetings and tha dinner of the institute.
The Hon. Sir R. Heaton Rhodes, M.L.C., has accepted the position of Dominion president of the New Zealand Red Cross Society (Incorporated).
Dr. H. Kenrick Christie, of Wanganui, will be one of the New Zealand *,•' delegates to the Pan-Pacific Surgical * Conference at Honolulu in September.
Mr. C. W. Smith, of the Texas Co. (Australasia) Ltd., who has been oa a business trip in the South Island, returned to Wellington this morning.
Dr. R. Jack, professor of physics at the University of Otago, arrived at Wellington from the south today. ■
Dr. H. G. Denham, professor of chemistry at Canterbury UniversityCollege, arrived at Wellington from the south today.
