A message from Tokio says that the Salvation Army Brigadier Annie Smythe, of Wellington, one of the most picturesque "figures in Tokio'for the last quarter of a century, has sailed for New Zealand.

A Vienna, girl, Miss Hedwig Bume, arrived at Auckland by the Monterey from Sydney on Monday to be married at Christchurch to the chief guide at the Fox Glacier, "Mr. Franz Barta. Mr. Barta had been at the Fox Glacier for only the last season. He and his bride had met while mountaineering, and had done much climbing together in the Swiss and Austrian Alps,
Mrs. Tweed, Wellington, who has been visiting her daughter, Mrs. Ray Towle, Remuera, Auckland, will leave Auckland today to visit Rotorua.
Miss Tui Hardy-Gibson, who has been On the staff of the Commissioner of Stamp Duties in Wellington, has resigned her position and returned to Napier, where her marriage to' Mr. Leigh Hay-Chapman is arranged for September 6.
