WOOL IN DUNEDIN
CRUTCHINGS SLOW OF SALE
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, August 25,
A-total of 3170 bales was offered at the winter wool sale held today. There was a good attendance of overseas buyers, local mill representatives and fellmongers, and considering the grave international situation, competition exceeded expectations. It was noticeable that fine crutchings were slow in selling and passings for these grades were frequent. The quality and condition of the crutchings under offer were not up to the standard of last year as a result of the extreme weather conditions experienced. Crutchings and skirtings comprised the bulk of the catalogue, with some good average lines of fleece. As compared with northern sales prices were generally easier for crutchings. An extra super line of four bales of crossbred crutchings (suitable for the American trade) made Hid. Any fleece wool forward met excellent competition and values were from Id to 2d better than the April rates. The official range of prices is as follows: — Merino, to 12_d; halfbred, 56/58's, ll'ld to 12d; halfbred, 50/56's, lid to 12d; fine crossbred, lOd to 12d; crossbred, 10_d to 12d; halfbred, necks and pieces, 7£d to B£d; crossbred, necks and pieces, 7|d to BJd; locks, 4d to 4_d; merino crutchings, s|d to 6£d; halfbred crutchings, good, 6_d to 7_d: halfbred crutchings. average, 6d to 7a; halfbred crutchings, inferior, 4d to s_d; threequarterbred crutchings, good, 6^d to 7id; three-quarterbred crutchings, average, 5d to 6_d; three-quarterbred crutchings, inferior, 4d to sd; super crossbred crutchings, to Hid; crossbred crutchings, good. 8d to 9_d; crossbred crutchings, average, 6Jd to 7_d; crossbred .crutchings, inferior, 5d to 6d.
