LATE SITTING OF HOUSE

GOVERNMENT'S POLICY ATTACKED

The expectation of a late sitting for the second reading of the Finance Bill in the House of Representatives Avas fully realised, an attack on the Government's policy launched by the Leader of the Opposition (the Hon. A. Hamilton) when the House sat yesterday afternoon being maintained by Opposition members, with occasional contributions by way of defence from the Government benches, until 2.30 this morning. Concurrently with the Finance Bill the Land and Income Tax (Annual) Bill was before the House, and the discussion on both measures ranged over a wide field. The second readings were carried on the voices.
