LOWER HUTT QUEEN CARNIVAL

Arrangements for holding the main carnivals in connection with the project now in progress in Lower Hutt on behalf of the Municipal Band have been completed by the central executive of the citizen committees controlling the enterprise. The organiser, Mr, F. N. Jones, of Nelson, has been in Lower Hutt for the past three weeks attending to various matters, and the four queens, representing north, south, east, and. west, have been holding functions since the second week of July, their efforts up to date meeting with success.

It has been decided to commence the carnival proper on Saturday, September 2, in the grounds of the old Hutt Central School. The carnival wilJ continue every following Friday and Saturday until further notice. These arrangements have been made on account of evening classes being held in the school, and because the Recreation Ground is unavailable. The opening day will commence with a novel procession of decorated wheelbarrows, over a hundred in number, and will be headed by the Port Nicholson Silver Band. Sir Alexander Roberts will officially open the carnival. Elaborate preparations have also bee., made for | games and amusement devices.
