TREES & POWER-HOUSES

Two clauses in the report of the Eastbourne reserves committee of the Borough Council deal 4- with the question of trees, and Councillor Magill remarked that it was somewhat of a coincidence that the clauses should follow one another. The first dealt with a demand from the Electric Power Board that trees that were interfering with electric lines should be cut down, and the other with the beautification of roads by planting trees and a booklet entitled "Road Beautification." Councillor Magill said that the booklet referred to the ruthless and rough manner in which power boai'ds topped trees, and suggested that where lopping was necessary an endeavour should be made to preserve the beauty of the tree.
