"DEPRESSION JUNIORS"
A committee is to investigate the position of employees in the Post and Telegraph Department who were delayed in promotion because of the depression, according to a statement by the Postmaster-General (the Hon. F. Jones) in the House of Representatives yesterday. Mr. W. A. Bodkin (National, Central Otago) asked the Postmaster-General, whether it was the intention of the Government to do anything to improve the position of those officers in the Post and Telegraph Department who were commonly referred to as "the depression juniors"; and, if so, whether he would make a statement as to the Government's intentions? .. "The Government has set up a departmental committee of inquiry to investigate certain anomalies in the Post and Telegraph Department and to fully to me," the Minister said. "The position of the officers known as 'depression juniors' is included in the order* of reference. The committee will be commencing its deliberations within the next .few weeks."
