MITCHELL'S INTENTIONS
It is understood that N. A. Mitchell, who captained New Zealand last year on the Rugby visit to Australia, and who is leading the Otago team on its present northern tour, has had in mind for some time the idea of retiring from big match play. Inquiries when the Otago team was in Wellington for last Saturday's match revealed that Mitchell was unlikely to take part'in any more big matches after the Otago team's tour had been completed. It was stated that he would not be available for the New Zealand trials next month, and. the inter-island match being linked up with the trials, this was taken to mean that he would not be available for the South Island team His candidature for the South African tour was regarded as diubtful, and there is now the advice that he will not be a starter. There is a doubt, too. about J. Dick, Auckland and New Zealand wing-three-quarter, being available, and another of last year's New Zealand representatives, T. Berghan, is not a candidate for the tour.
