EPSOM CANDIDATE

WITHIN'S GOOD PROSPECTS

I The capable manner in which Withlin accounted for a sound field of unhoppled trotters at the Auckland Meeting in June draws attention to the prospects of the Wrack mare at Epsom on Saturday, when she figures among the candidates for the Royal Oak Handicap. A smart beginner and a solid trotter, she started on only four occasions last term for a first and two seconds. After running unplaced at the Auckland Autumn Meeting she was next produced at Claudelands. where, after being a long way back in the first mile, she finished very resolutely to just fait* to overhaul Decoy Bird, the distance !of the event being two miles. Her | next appearances were at Epsom in June, when she secured a second and a first, on the latter occasion simply outclassing a strong field over «a mile [ and a half. i According to reports from the north she has progressed since, and is not I likely to lack on the score of condition on Saturday. Even though handicapped

on 36yds she is such a great begirt jner that she should be within striking distance at the completion of half a [mile; while a further factor in her I favour is that the distance of the race is a mile and a half, which should suit her admirably. Within is an eight-year-old daughter of Wrack and Lady Swithin, the dam of useful performers in Tecla and Wee Wrack. Lady Swithin was foaled in ; 1916 and is by St. Swithin from Lady 'Cherry—King Harold mare.
