TODAY'S JUDGING
A further batch of junior classes from the various sections of the Wellington Competitions Society's festival was disposed of today. Recalls were ! selected in two junior dancing classes, , and two junior vocal classes and two ' junior elocution classes wero judged. Important classes included in tonight's programme include the women's Scottish folk song. The competitor gaining highest points in this ' section of the r-en's Scottish folk song i section will hold the Sir Harry Lauder . Cup for the year. Preliminary judging will also take place in the tenor solo section. Both these classes will be ; heard in the Concert Chamber. Two finals in the elocution section—men's New Zealand test recital and women's reading at sight—will be heard by the judge in the Thespian Hall, and recalls will be selected in the humorous musical monologue. In the Town Hall two recalled competitors will be final,ly placed in each of the following classes:—Operatic dance (6-8), char, jter dance (8-10), piano solo (12-16), dance duo (under 9). duet in character (10-16), clog dance (under 9), Chas. Begg and Co.'s piano scholarship (13-16), boys' solo song and dance (under 16), boys' tap dance (12-16) and character dance (16 and over). The concert programme will .lso include an interesting selection of items by selected competitors from other classes. TODAY'S RESULTS. The results of today's judging are as follows: — Class 207. Girls' Tap Dance, 8 and under 10 (35 entries). —Recalls: Dawn Sargent (Wellington), Parn Connolly (Brooklyn). Highly commended: June Edge (Lyall Bay), Doreen Tempest (Wellington), Colleen Edmonds (Hataitai), Audrey Cuthbert (Wellington), Ailsa Wells (Wellington), Grace Ferguson (Johnsonville). (Recalls will be " heard tomorrow night.) Class 223. Clog Dance, 12 and under 14 (8 entries). —Recalls: Merle McClymont (Wellington), Joyce Moody (Wellington). Restricted (30 entries). —Valda Young (Miramar) and Barbara Dawson (Lower Hutt), 78pts, equal, 1; Lois Earl (Newlands), 77pts, 2; Pauline Henderson (Khahdallah), 76pts, 3. Very highly commended: Patricia Compton (Kilbirnie), Monica Keane (Newtown). Class 100, Girls' Junior Test' Recital, 7 and under 10.
