DAY IN PARLIAMENT
FINANCIAL PROVISIONS
Yesterday in the House of Representatives was featureless except for the introduction of the Bills giving legislative effect to the Government's financial proposals, and the two measures implementing taxation scarcely departed from what had been forecast in the Budget. After these measures, and the Pharmacy Bill, had been introduced, the House proceeded with the debate on the Budget. Five members took part, three being from the Government and two from the Opposition. Nothing new was forthcoming in the discussion and members were probably pleased when the acting Prime Minister (the Hon. P. Fraser) announced before the House adjourned that he hoped to bring the debate to an end on Tuesday so that the way would be left cjear for the remaining stages of the Finance Bill. Mr. Fraser commented that he had hoped to finish the debate on Tuesday, thus indicating that it might not end then, but it is expected that the party Whips will get together and make arrangements for a finish on that day.
