FLOODING IN WAiRARAPA
(Special to the "Evening Post.")
MASTERTON, T? is Day. Wairarapa rivers are in heavy flood as the result of incessant rain on the ranges. The Waiohine became a rag- | ing torrent yesterday and overflowed into the main highway near Greytown, but not to a sufficient extent to hold up traffic. The area concerned, immediately adjacent to the Waiohine Bridge, is subject to flooding. A large tract of land in the Swam.. Road locality nearby is also submerged to a considerable depth, so much so that
dairy factory suppliers in this part of the district had to make a detour to Dalefield by the Matarawa Road instead of the main road. The water was up to the top of the fence in this area and was just lapping the decking of the bridge over the Maungateriri Stream. If the rain does not cease within an hour or two ~a serious flood is a possibility. The ranges are at present carrying '-a considerable coating of snow.
