FIRE IN LAMBTON QUAY
Flames and smoke coming from a building behind shops in Lambton Quay attracted a crowd of spectators at about 11.30 o'clock last night. Four engines from the Central Station, one from Thorndon, and one from Constable Street turned out. Apparently the fire started in the rooms of the Aeronautical College of New Zealand and Crowley's Gymnasium, opposite the D.I.C. Three leads of hose were trained on to the bilaze. which was soon extinguished.
The x'ear portion of the top floor of the building was fairly badly damaged, and a considerable quantity of water leaked through on to the tables of the Central Billiard Parlour on the second floor. Water also found its way down to the ground floor to the Maeder Permanent Waving Specialists' Salon and a shop occupied by Mrs. D. James, milliner.
