ALLEGEDLY SUBMARINES
(Received August 18, 11.50 a.m.) BRISBANE, This Day. For more than a week three aero* planes have been searching the coastal waters near Townsville because of reports that strange craft resembling submarines have been seen there. The Minister of Defence, Mr. C. A. Street, said in Melbourne that investigations appeared to have proved that the reports were groundless. A number of people on different parts of the coast reported having seen, a submarine showing lights. i | I
