ROUND TRIP ENDS
FLYING-BOAT CARIBOU
THE RETURN FROM AMERICA
(British Official Wireless.)
RUGBY, August 12,
The Imperial Airways flying-boat Caribou, which arrived at Southampton yesterday after completing the 7200 miles round trip to New York and back in six days, made the Atlantic crossing from Botwood to Foynes in 12 hours 5 minutes.
The commander said that the speed at times exceeded 200 m.p.h., and, owing to a favourable wind, the Caribou did not refuel till it reached Southampton. The ship carried 72 pounds of mail.
The Cabot left for New York today with its cargo, including a brace of grouse for President Roosevelt from Imperial Airways. This will be the first time grouse has been available in America two days after the opening of the season.
