BOYS' CHURCH CHOIR
A new departure in the Presbyterian Church in New Zealand is represented by the establishment of a boys' choir at St. Andrew's Church, Symonds Street, states the "New Zealand Herald." Since the decision to introduce choristers some months ago, 19 boys have volunteered, and their contribution to the Sunday services is regarded as a most successful innovation. To increase and maintain t ue number of choristers, efforts are now being made to obtain further boys of nine years and over. They are thoroughly trained in voice production by the organist and choirmaster, Mr. A. W. Evans, and it is hoped to obtain a constant supply of voices to replace older boys when their vocal range becomes unsuitable. "So far as I am aware there is no other boys' choir in a Presbyterian Church in New Zealand, and they are far from common in the Church in other countries," stated the minister at St. Andrew's, the Rev. P. Gladstone Hughes, last night. A movement was at present on foot for the choristers to be robed in a simple vestment.
