DAY IN PARLIAMENT
OPPOSITION AMENDMENT
The speech made by Mr. J. A. Leo (Government, Grey Lynn) in the House of Representatives on Wednesday evening had an unexpected sequel in the House last evening, when the Opposition launched an amendment designed to force the Government into the open regarding its attitude towards ths sentiments expressed in Mr. Lee's speech. The amendment was moved by the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes (National, Hurunui), who prophesied that deliberate failure to' meet the Dominion's obligations to the Old Country would bring about the blackest day in New Zealand's history. He took Mr. Lee to task for his criticism of the financial interests at Home, and pointed out more than once in the course of his speech that the Government had not defended itself against any of Mr. Lee's charges.
Mr. Forbes tabled his amendment half an hour before the House adjourned, and was interrupted in his speech by the rising of the House.
Apart from this high light, the'debate was confined to members on the back benches, and contained little that was new.
