HUTT RIVER BOARD
The engineer. Mr. H. Sladden, reported to the Hutt River Board yesterday that the river had been generally rather above normal for the past month, but that no freshes of consequence had taken place and the. channel conditions were generally unchanged. Several small washouts had been or were being repaired. The upper diversion cut at Belmont was developing well. The lower cut had, not altered. The flood gauge had been received and would be installed near the main bridge as soon as conditions allowed. The board decided that it could not accept a suggestion that three feet of soil be removed from a privatelyowned se«tion within the stop banks. It was also decided to obtain a valuation of the section with a view to its purchase by the board in pursuance of its policy to acquire, where' possible, all the. area within the stop banks.
