TIN HAT CLUB

The monthly tattoo of the Tin Hat Club of the Wellington R.S.A. held on Wednesday night followed the usual opening procedure, except that the nominee for the position of Grand Marshal for the evening, Mr. Hugh Biss, was cross-examined by wigged and gowned learned counsel and had to be vouched for by the Hon. Vincent Ward, M.L.C. It was then put to the assembly to decide whether the candidate was a fit and proper person to conduct the tattoo. True to Tin Hat Club custom, the gathering vociferously denied it, notwithstanding which Mr. Biss.was handed the Grand Marshal's* regalia. Fallen comrades were remembered in the customary manner. The orchestra played a requiem while the curtain was slowly raised on a cleverlyexecuted drop-scene, this being followed by the reading of some lines of Laurence Binyon's poem, "For the Fallen," the line "We will remember them" being repeated by the company.

The Tin Hat Club can claim to have presented at least one outstanding" musical or novelty item at every one of its tattoos, but it can be claimed that the violin solos of Mr. Bert. Westhead this week rank with the best. Other pleasing items were a sketch by members of the club and numbers by Messrs. E. Parsons. Harison Cook, J. Morgan Davies, L. K. Morris, Charles Moore, and the Tin Hat Club Orchestra, conducted by Mr. Pat Cole. Supper and games contributed to a very enjoyable eyeainjj.
