MOTORIST KILLED
LEVEL CROSSING SMASH

NAPIER, August 4,
William James Manson, widower, 52, of Hastings; was killed almost instantaneously when the car he was driving came into collision with a shunting engine at the Ellison Street railway crossing at Napier today. The car was dragged along the line for some distance before striking an upright post of a cattle-stop. It veered on to a grass patch and came to rest with the front wheels in a drain. When found, Mr. Manson di« not appear to have extensive external injuries, but he died within a few minutes. The car was badly smashed on the driver's side.
