THEFT FROM LAUNCH
MAN GIVEN SIX MONTHS

AUCKLAND, August 3,
■Convicted on a charge of stealing a pair of binoculars valued at £23, part of property stolen from a launch anchored in Mechanics Bay in December last, Thomas Lanning Marchbank, 4&, labourer, was sentenced to six months' imprisonment by Mr. J. Moriing, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court. He pleaded not guilty. Two witnesses identified the binoculars as taken from Alexander Harvey's launch. A hotel barman gave evidence that Marchbank sold him the binoculars for £ 1 10s in * December. Police said Marchbank had a long criminal record and frequented the waterfront. They added that there had been many thefts from launches and other boats ,of late.
