CONGESTED TRAINS

DISSATISFACTION AT NGAIO

Dissatisfaction with the manner, in which trains on the Johnsonville line were congested at peak times was expressed at* a meeting of the executive committee of the Ngaio Progressive Association last night. ' The chairman, Mr. H. L. Cummings, said that for some time past trains on the line had been congested at peak hours, v but since the Government houses in the district had been occupied the congestion had become much more acute. At the presents, time there seemed to be available sterling funds which could be used for the railways, and he thought it was opportune to ask the Railway Department if more multiple electric units could be put on the service to relieve the congestion. Mr. O. Gidall said the way in which passengers were rushing the trains at the Railway Station during peak hours was dangerous. There was always danger in the overcrowding of the trains. Mr. L. Manton said that as the district was growing fast it needed extra buses as well as to cope with the traffic. He suggested that -the overflow from theftrains could be transported by buses. It, was decided to ask the Railway Department if more unite could be put .on the service. The Post and Telegraph Department is to be asked- if it can arrange for a postal delivery to Cockayne Road twice daily. It was decided to draw the attention of the City Council to the parking of cars near the safety zone area in Featherston Street outside the Railway Station.
